![]() ![]() ![]() See what San Diego was like back in its days as a Mexican frontier town. While it’s totally reasonable to pop in for an hour, I’d suggest a minimum of 2 or3 hours with a movie and a snack break, if your San Diego itinerary permits. Parts of their enormous specimen collection are scattered throughout the Museum to highlight cool discoveries and inspire visitors to respect nature. The San Diego Natural History Museum (known as the NAT) studies and catalogs the evolution and diversity of southern California and the Baja peninsula. This San Diego museum is huge, entertaining, and well worth a visit if you have the time. This might not be as entertaining for kids, and while we didn't go it could be a good place where to let your toddler run around safe and free. At 37 acres, the garden includes rare bamboo groves, desert gardens, a tropical rainforest, California native plants, Mediterranean climate landscapes, and a subtropical fruit garden. North of San Diego towards Encinitas is the botanic garden. Kids won't find the area particularly interesting so a quick walk will also do- you can head on to the USS Midway from here. If you’re staying in San Diego for more than a few nights, then odds are you’ll end up eating out here at some point. Today, it’s a popular spot for evening entertainment, including great restaurants and bars. Another historic district, Gaslamp was once the commercial heart of San Diego.
